How can you get AMS tokens

TL;DR – there are several ways to obtain AMS tokens. In short summary, you are be able to buy them with bank transfer or credit card, by exchanging crypto on amsterdreams or by trading on an external exchange.

UPDATE: tokens are now available! Check here 👀

Didn’t you use to hate it when your math teacher 👨‍🏫 said: there are three ways to solve this problem. We’d love to tell you there is only one way to get AMS tokens and it works for everybody. But different customers have different needs, so we unfortunately couldn’t keep it quite that simple. By the way, read all about how AMS tokens work here.

Everything should be made as simple as possible. But not simpler.

The best method for you to get AMS tokens depends on your preference and situation:

Getting AMS tokens by bank or credit card

This will be the situation that will apply to most of us. You have some savings set aside, that you made with your job or your business. It’s in your bank account and you can get it out with a bank transfer, a credit card payment or something like Apple Pay. The checkout page will look similar to something that you’d expect when you’re buying something on Amazon.

So what happens to the tokens once you buy them? When the electronic payment completes, the tokens are added to your so-called wallet. This is a secure software application that runs in your browser and that gives you access to your tokens. You can also buy hardware wallets (‘dongles’) for even more security. More on wallets here.

For now, suffice to say that wallets work like a bank account or…well, a physical wallet. Only you can access the tokens, for instance when you want to sell them again in the future. (More on selling in an upcoming article as well.)

Due to the nature of blockchain technology, it takes a few seconds to a few minutes for the tokens to appear in your wallet. When they do, it looks something like this in the popular MetaMask wallet.

You don’t have to do anything for your AMS to increase in value. As the AMS token increases in value, this will be reflected in the wallet automatically. In the example above, the top number is the number of tokens you own and the wallet multiplies it by the value of 1 AMS. You can also configure MetaMask or other wallets to reflect your own currency: USD, AUD, GBP, INR, RMB, and so on.

Getting AMS with cryptocurrency from an exchange

So you have cryptocurrency already. You bought it through one of the crypto trading platforms. Perhaps you’re taking advantage of some of their features, like generating returns from staking benefits or a crypto-backed credit card. Great.

First of all, at the time of writing, AMS is not available on an exchange like crypto.com, Binance or Bitvavo. This is because these exchanges charge quite high fees to list a new token on their exchanges. Think hundreds of thousands of US dollars or more. That is money that amsterdreams has received from investors to buy homes with, not give to an exchange, with all due respect. There is nothing stopping these centralized exchanges to start trading AMS. We just hope we’ll remember to update this article when they do.

Until then, but also after that, there is a second way to get AMS on an exchange: using a decentralized exchange or DEX. A famous one is Uniswap. Like amsterdreams, these are companies that bring together the money of people like you and me and allow trades between different cryptocurrencies.

Using a DEX like Uniswap, you are able to buy and sell AMS. amsterdreams will make available trading pairs with the so-called EURS coin: 1 EURS is always worth 1 euro. Others may offer training pairs with popular coins like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT) and more. You can even make your own!

To buy (or sell) AMS on a DEX, you will once again need to have a wallet like MetaMask and now with some currency in it, like Ethereum, EURS or something else. You can buy Ethereum from pretty much all (centralized) exchanges.

Getting AMS with cryptocurrency from your own wallet

If you already own cryptocurrency with your own Ethereum wallet, we probably don’t have to explain too much. You can go to a decentralized exchange to buy or sell AMS, as explained in the previous topic. But what if you want to get it straight from the source, from amsterdreams? You can then exchange Ethereum (ETH) right on the amsterdreams website.

There are two reasons why you would want to do this. First, your savings may already be on the blockchain in ETH. It would then be very silly to first convert back to euro or dollars with your bank to then buy tokens on the blockchain again. That would cost a lot of fees. The same applies, to a lesser extent, to using a DEX: you would be paying trading fees to first convert your money to EURS and then again to buy AMS.

To facilitate this, we’ve made a tailored version of the popular Uniswap exchange, at swap.amsterdreams.com. It has the same underlying technology as the normal Uniswap, only with a few less bells and whistles to make it a bit simpler.

Conclusion

In summary, most people will buy their AMS with euros, dollars, pounds, and so on, on the amsterdreams website. There are some more efficient methods when your investments are already on the blockchain and one even allows for automated purchase of AMS tokens.
